27 October 2011 - Research on future declines of mammals shows the need for new conservation priorities. GLOBIO, together with the IMAGE model, contributed to the study with a projection of land use under four scenarios. Results were published in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society.
From 2 to 4 November 2011 The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, in collaboration with Aidenvironment and ITC, offers a short course on regional and national biodiversity modeling with GLOBIO3.
10 May 2011 -This year’s Global Monitoring Report of the World Bank examines the question what factors are essential for improving the odds that off-target countries can reach the Millennium Development Goals. The report includes a GLOBIO analysis of the relationship between biodiversity and human development.
20 April 2011 – This month a new book is launched on modelling the impact of human use of the terrestrial land. The book includes applications of the GLOBIO model across the world, developed by national modellers.
On 8 December 2010 GLOBIO network partner the UBC Fisheries Centre and the Nippon Foundation launched the $13-million researchprogram Nereus – Predicting the Future Ocean. Nereus will result in ocean wide projections of biodiversity, complementary to the terrestrial GLOBIO results.
26 October 2010 - Today the journal Science publishes an analysis of five global environmental assessments examining likely future changes in biodiversity. Scenarios developed using GLOBIO were used to estimate changes in species abundance in terrestrial ecosystems.
7 October 2010 - The new report ‘Rethinking Global Biodiversity Strategies’ explores structural changes in production and consumption to reduce biodiversity loss. In this study the models GLOBIO and EcoOcean were used to calculate biodiversity effects of eight possible measures and one package of measures. The report will be presented during COP10 in Nagoya.
10 May 2010 - “New vision required to stave off dramatic biodiversity loss.” This is the principal message of the third Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO), launched by the Convention on Biological Diversity. GLOBIO contributed to GBO3 with a synthesis of results from earlier analyses for GEO4 and GBO2.
Now available online: paper in Biological Conservation on the impact of roads on biodiversity. The quantitative relationships resulting from this study will be used in GLOBIO.
Gorillas, the largest of the great apes, are under renewed threat across the Congo Basin. Poaching for bushmeat, loss of habitat due to agricultural expansion, degradation of habitat from logging, mining and charcoal production are amongst these threats.

Rapid deforestation is a major environmental issue in northern Thailand. Kasetsart University (Bangkok) explored three land use scenarios, aiming at development of the region with different levels of biodiversity protection. For the analysis the models Dyna-CLUE and GLOBIO were used.

GLOBIO contributed with input to the report, including coastal analysis.
